| As Singapore’s record-keeper, NAS has an extensive collection
of records from different media. These include textual records, photographs,
audio-visual recordings, cartographical records, electronic records
and oral history interviews. These records are primarily acquired
from government agencies, private individuals and organisations as
well as overseas archives and manuscript libraries. Collectively,
these document our nation’s development and the social experiences
of Singaporeans.
Many first-time users to an archives are generally surprised that
archival records are not openly displayed on shelves and that they
need to lodge a request to view the records. In addition, they
may have some initial difficulties locating archival records as
these are not arranged according to various topical subjects.
