The National Archives of Singapore (NAS) acquires its collection from various sources including government agencies, private individuals, organisations and clubs. Archival material are also acquired from overseas sources to fill in gaps in our collection. Records Releases 2002 covers our major acquisitions and materials released for public access in the year 2001.

The major acquisitions featured in Records Releases 2002 are arranged into 6 categories, according to the name of the transferring agency or donor. Information given for each category includes the covering period of the record or collection; the finding aids available and the access medium and access usage condition imposed by the transferring / depositing agencies.

Records are coded "A" (free access) or "B" (restricted access). The type of restriction depends on the material.

The 6 categories are:

  Public Records
These comprise records transferred to NAS by government departments and statutory boards
  Private Donors
These are documents, photographs and other memorabilia donated by private individuals
  Private Organisations and Clubs
These comprise records and materials of organisations and associations
  Overseas Acquisitions
These are acquisitions from overseas institutions and archives
  Audio-Visual Records Section
This section is arranged in 3 categories according to Public Office, Educational Institutions and Broadcast Stations
  Oral History Project
These comprise oral history interviews conducted by the Oral History Centre
