The American Club Collection

This is a collection of newsletters and annual reports of the American Club in Singapore. The newsletters date from 1982 to 1993 and they comprise mainly of social events and happenings in the club, member get-togethers, dining experiences etc. The annual reports date from 1971 to 1992 and they comprise the President’s message, financial statements, reports by departments etc. There is also an interesting write up on the history of the American Club taken from an extract from the American Association of Singapore published in celebration of their 50^th anniversary.

Japanese Association Collection

This next instalment consists of some 100 photographs from the Japanese Association of Singapore. Researchers who are interested in finding out the social setting and daily lives of the Japanese community in pre-war Singapore will find the photographs a rare visual treat. The photographs consist of visits by Japanese royalty; ceremonial occasions such as weddings, social gatherings like birthday celebrations and tea parties; school meetings and Japanese sports meets; Japanese class photographs; Japanese ladies’ fashion in the 1930s etc and the Japanese community at large in their relaxed informal social setting. MI 185 Condolence Books Collection

This is a collection of 79 volumes of condolence books comprising condolence messages dedicated to the families of the passengers and crew of the ill-fated Silkair flight MI 185 which plummeted into the Musi River, Palembang on December 17, 1997 killing all 104 on board.

Norwegian Seamen’s Mission Collection

The Norwegian Seamen’s Mission provide a place of rest and opportunities for social interaction for seamen from Norwegian ships docking at Pasir Panjang, as well as the Norwegian community in Singapore. This collection of photographs show the Norwegian Seamen’s Mission house at Pasir Panjang as well as Norwegian families’ social interaction during Christmas, church services at the mission, children Christmas parties, entertainment programmes for the families etc. Also included in this collection are photographs of Singapore River scenes in the 1950s and the old Change Alley Aerial Plaza.
