As part of NAS' mission to inculcate good recordkeeping practices to government agencies and to share the latest archival theory and methodology in archives management and preservation to overseas archivists, we organise annual conferences on various professional issues by overseas and local experts and practitioners. In 2007, our theme was on planning new and remodelled repository facilities for an archives and in 2006, we organised an international symposium on electronic records.

For this upcoming international conference,  join us and

You Will Learn…

  • Interplay between role of records, archives, and the construction of individual and collective memories
  • Policy, procedures and infrastructure in developing a trusted recordkeeping system
  • Digital preservation strategies

Despite the wide prevalence of information in the Internet age, such information may not necessarily be reliable and accurate accounts of events. On the other hand, records and archives are the most trusted sources of knowledge as it is created primarily not as sources for information but as a means of carrying out business activities. Records and archives hence inspire trust due to its evidential nature. As such, records managers, archivists and information professionals need to establish a trusted recordkeeping and preservation system to systematically control, maintain and preserve recorded information throughout its lifecycle.

At the same time, records and archives are also perceived as catalysts to memories at both the individual and collective level. The presence and/or absence of records and archives in a society together with the intangible aspects of collective memories help to shape and define the memories of the community.

This conference presents an avenue for you to gain a world preview of the latest policies, standards and practices in good recordkeeping and preservation from practicing archivists. At the same time, you will also gain an understanding on the role of records and archives for administrative accountability and the construction of national identity.
